Let me introduce our “Flower shop” or “green room”, the Kalmar Algae Collection. We have about 90 phytoplankton strains of different origin and genus, including cyanobacteria, dinoflagellates, cryptophyta and diatoms. They need to be inoculated into fresh media regularly and it is a lot of work to keep them all alive. All lined up, standing in the lit constant room, they have perfects conditions to grow and can be used for experiments whenever needed.
The Marine Ecology course ended last week, all knowledge is gathered by the students and could hopefully be used in the final exam. Maybe some basic knowledge about the river Nile would have been useful?!
This year’s aim is to keep you informed on a more regular basis…
